8/27/2023 Sinking Springs pt 16 to pt 20

8/27/2023 Sinking Springs pt16 to pt20
13.87mi
Dave Victoria and myself went for a nice hike. Mostly road but 3 to 4 miles in one section and 1 mile or so in another by Serpent Mound. We met at the cemetery near point 20. Spoke with the guy who was there doing some maintenance and asked permission to park and he said no problem. We actually ran into him later that day near the end of our day lol. Nice guy he asked how the hike was. We started in Sinking Springs at the Family Dollar in town on main Street. We informed them as well and used the bathroom there. We passed two cemeteries, one at the start that is just off the trail and one further out where we took a break and had lunch. One major place on this route is Serpent Mound. I think that is worth of a day by itself. The trail leaves from the main shelter and follows the bush line to the driveway to 73.

Bt sections complete no change

Loveland, Ceasar Creek, Troy, Williamsburg, St. Marys
Bt miles 1 way based on complete sections
45.9mi + 55.1mi + 51.9mi + 51.7mi + 45.5mi= 250.1mi

nct total this year 147.80 mi + 13.87 mi = 161.67mi
Total for year 184.41 mi + 13.87 mi= 198.28 mi
500/365 = 1.37 x day of year = 327.43
Today is day 239 of year, not on track for 500

Selfie for challenge at meeting place the cemetery.

This is just after start in town.

Dave and Victoria.

Where the trail turns to this other road.
Pizza place seems interesting.  Not too many options close here.

Nice view down the road for the trail.

This is where the trail goes off road.
Not so easy to spot.

This is actually well maintained part of the trail here compared to some further in this section.

It looks like this was a truck road of some kind.

I think we were all still happy and not over heating at this point.

Dave and Victoria coming up the hill

Often this is what the off road part looks like.

This should be a hairpin turn.  I think this was true.  Some it's hard to read since the other side there can be markings too.

Big pole marking the trail

This part where it goes down the side of the hill to the creek is a bit confusing.  We had to Bushwack a bit.

This is where we found the real trail again. You can see the blue blaze on the side here.

Great rock formations to see all the way down the canyon.

Dave going through one of the creek crossings.

Same picture wider shot.
It's very steep on both sides here.

Can almost see the path here.

Wanted to get a nice picture of the sun coming in through the trees here.

Trail is well defined and nice blue blaze.
Might not have been lost here 😀

Great view here blue blaze and the trail with the sun coming through.

This is where is come to the road... but from where I some see no trail here lol

Very nice view of creek we cross via road.

Just after you come out of the woods.  You make the turn down this street.

View down the road where you turn.

A better view of the church.

This is the cemetery where we ate lunch.

Had Victoria get a picture of me with the cemetery sign.  Selfie are fine buck I am terrible at it.  I personally do not care lol I am only doing that as part of the challenge.

View of the road near the cemetery.

A view of the gravestones and fence

Long road.

Had to get a picture of the chickens here.

This is where it goes off road again and heads toward Serpent Mound 🐍

This section of trail is all mulched and amazing.  I think this is private land and there is a private camp ground to the right side near Serpent Mound as we traveled.

This sign is near the public restrooms at Serpent Mound.  About an asteroid that hit the area.

Historical marker at Serpent mound.

This is a burial site this mound.  It is next to shelter and parking. When looking away from way we came and down this field I saw a blue blaze.

Another marker at the site.

This was a house on the road I believe along 73.  They have bowling balls and a few pins along the whole fence line.

Baby goats

Another church.  Victoria noticed the double doors.  Interesting.  This is at the turn to a different road and heading in toward to the car at this point only a few more miles.

Deer just chilling here under the table.

After the hike we went to ponderosa in Hillsboro.  These Murals are on the buildings there.

Selfie challenge.

Another mural in Hillsboro.

Nice view of mural.
